Kinaura is live. Here's what 15 months of pivots taught me

• 5 min read

Kinaura is live on the App Store.

It took over a year and three months to get here, and it looks nothing like what I set out to build.

I’ve been studying psychology since I was 18. I went to college for it, and I’ve always been drawn to understanding people. About a year and change ago I wanted to solve one simple problem. I believe people have a core type that doesn’t change much, and I wanted to build an assessment good enough that you didn’t have to keep retaking it to reach a solid answer. In the communities I’m part of, it was hard to find one that predicted someone’s type well. So I started designing my own.

I thought I was building a better test. What I was actually building was a tool that helps people understand themselves and each other.

That’s where it grew. The questions I kept asking were bigger than type. How do people regulate and dysregulate? How do they move in and out of flow? How do we change under work pressure, heavy stress or crisis, and how does personality drift in those states? Each answer led to a new module. Then the real idea showed up: take two people’s profiles and read how they work together, and how they could grow together.

I called it Prism Dynamics. Then I spent hours on the name, because dating and relationships is crowded. Prism sounded too scientific, and the big players already own words like “match.” So it became Kinaura.

What building it really looked like

Nobody tells you this about building a product: you start at 100% of the vision, and by the time it’s digestible and market ready, you’ve shipped a small slice of it. For me that meant dumbing down the language, dropping certain concepts and visuals, and making the user’s goal the center of the product. It’s the hardest craft in the whole process.

The lowest points were mostly lonely ones. You’d think people who share your passion would join the journey. Mostly they don’t. Starting something is a lonely road, and there were plenty of technical walls and bug fixes too. There were also times I had to stop entirely. Some of that was life. I stepped away more than once to take care of my dad, who needed full assistance.

What kept me going was the same thing that got my YouTube channel started: if one person benefits, that’s a win. If Kinaura helps one pair of people read their connection, whether they just met or they’ve been together for years, that’s a big win.

How it works

Two people each answer questions across several modules. One covers the core assessment. Others cover attachment, character traits, and how you show up and repair with someone. Then they Sync. The read starts at a basic level and goes deeper in layers as the two of you learn more about each other.

What it can show you: what is actually there between you and someone else, beyond a face. Where you click, where friction starts, and what the path could look like.

I use it myself. I retake the assessment every 30 to 60 days and track the trend, so I have a clear picture of how I operate, what I need, and what regulates me in a partner. It has made the landscape a lot easier to read.

It can get things wrong. When it does, I want to hear about it. And here is my honest position: nothing in Kinaura is validated yet as a predictor of how a relationship turns out. What I believe is that two people with enough repair skill, a baseline of compatibility and real bonding have a strong shot. That’s a belief, not a result.

Why now

The first dates, and the first weeks of getting to know someone, are full of ambiguity. If something could clear that up, more people would reach meaningful connections sooner, with more intention. That’s the gap I want Kinaura to fill.

Seeing it out in the world, available to anyone who wants it, feels like a release. I’m very happy with where the project is going, and we’re now officially in go-to-market mode.

What’s next

In the coming weeks I’m focused on making sure the insights people get are accurate and actually help their Syncs. After that, I’m working toward AI matchmaking, a chat that two people or one person can use, and MCP support so AI tools can work with your profile. The app is free right now while I work out the experience and watch how people use it. I’m not promising anything beyond that.

Two asks

  1. Download Kinaura and Sync with one person you care about. It works best with two. Get it on the App Store.
  2. If you’re an investor and this interests you, reach out to me for the passcode to the investor page, where you can follow the KPIs and app metrics.
